Adidas sues Marc Jacobs for ‘stealing’ three-stripe design

Marc Jacobs has swiped our stripes, a new lawsuit by Adidas charges.
The sportswear giant says it has spent millions promoting a three-stripe embellishment for its shorts, sweats, dresses and jackets - and that Marc Jacobs International is “intentionally and maliciously” stealing the trademarked design by putting four stripes on some of its own clothing.
Adidas wants Marc Jacobs to immediately stop using four stripes - and wants all of the designer’s four-striped clothing already on the market to be destroyed. Adidas is also seeking unspecified cash damages.
“The purchasing public has come to associate the Three-Stripe Mark with Adidas,” says the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Oregon.
“Adidas has used the Three-Stripe Mark in connection with its frequent sponsorship of musical artists, including pop-stars Katy Perry and Selena Gomez and iconic rappers B.o.B, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West,” the suit says.
“Marc Jacobs’s use of confusingly similar imitations of Adidas’s Three-Stripe Mark is likely to deceive, confuse, and mislead purchasers and prospective purchasers” the suit says.
