AI at EUIPO: In-House Image Search in TMview Extended to all TM5 Offices
As of 15 May 2023, the images of trade marks from the non-EU TM5 Offices have been integrated into TMview, the EUIPO’s artificial intelligence (AI)-driven image search tool.
As the world’s largest free, online trade mark database, the addition of these offices to TMview will enable users to compare their trade marks’ graphical representations with over 57 million figurative trade mark applications within seconds. EUIPO’s TMview, and its design counterpart DesignView, are databases which use a system based on artificial technology to enable more accurate image searching than ever before. They provide an unparalleled resource for professionals and businesses seeking comprehensive trade mark and registered community design information.
TM5 consists of the five largest trade mark offices in the world, namely China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), Japan Patent Office (JPO), Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) and the EUIPO. Together the five offices are responsible for 60 % of the world’s internationally filed trade marks. This latest addition means that the TMview image search is now available to all the TM5 in addition to the EU IP offices in the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN).
TMview
First launched in 2010, TMview was born from the EUIPO’s cooperation efforts, and has continuously expanded over the past 13 years. In 2020, an improved version of TMview was launched, including a greatly enhanced navigation and search experience, in line with the Office’s focus on AI. In April 2021, the EUIPO introduced blockchain to TMview, launching the first-ever European blockchain platform to better serve public institutions and their clients. As of 2022, the Office incorporated an in-house image search function into TMview to further increase the usefulness of this flagship tool.
This advance proves that innovative technology and the customer are at the heart of everything the Office does.
