2015 First-Half Invention Patent Applications in China up 20%

According to the statistics released recently by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), a total of 1,124,000 patent applications for the three kinds of patents in China i.e., for invention, utility model, and design patents, were received by SIPO during the first half of 2015, representing a year-on-year growth of 20.5%.
China Patent Agent (HK) reproted that among the total patent applications received during the period, 424,000 applications were for invention patents (up 20.9%), 471,000 for utility model patents (up 28.5%), and 229,000 for design patents (up 6.4%).
For the invention patent applications received during the period, 361,000 applications, or 85.1%, were filed by domestic applicants (up 24.6%); and 63,000 applications, or 14.9%, by foreign applicants (up 3.6%).
During the period, a total of 749,000 patents were granted, an increase of 26.4% year on year. Among the total grants, 161,000 were for invention patents (up 49.2%), 376,000 for utility model patents (up 17.3%), and 212,000 for design patents (up 29.3%).
