GAC to release white paper on IPR protection

The General Administration of Customs (GAC) plans to release the bilingual "2007 White Paper on China's Customs IPR Protection" this April, which will include contents of major cases, effectiveness of law enforcement, analysis on trend of trade infringement, etc..

It is learnt that in 2007 the customs departments seized 3,310 infringement cases, representing a growth of 34% over last year; the number of seized infringing goods reached 320 million, with an increase of 193%.

In order to intensify crackdown on infringing goods through import and export channel, the GAC launched the "Dragon Boat Action on IPR Protection" last September. During the first three months, the action has achieved fruitful results. The customs departments seized 1,301 infringement cases, with a year-on-year increase of 52%; more than 170 million pieces of infringing goods were seized, representing a growth of 80% over the same period last year.
