Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) of Indonesia held a bilateral meeting on September 8 in Jakarta, on the occasion of the Korea-Indonesia Summit which took place in the same period.

At the meeting, Commissioner Lee Insil and Director General Min Usihen signed a memorandum of understanding on comprehensive cooperation laying a solid foundation for active bilateral cooperation between KIPO and DGIP in IP laws, examination, protection, enforcement and so on.

Also, the heads agreed to implement the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program by signing another memorandum on it, which is expected to help many Korean companies doing business in the local market acquire IP rights faster. With this, Korea is now one of the only two countries that Indonesia implements the PPH program with.

Korean companies file the third largest number of applications with Indonesia among the ASEAN nations. Considering the significance the country holds, KIPO will spare no efforts to work with its Indonesian counterpart to facilitate fast acquisition, proper protection and effective utilization of IP rights in the local market, said a KIPO official.
