Wang Qishan: China making vigorous progress in IPR protection

The U.S. President Barack Obama met with China’s Vice Premier Wang Qishan and China's State Councilor Dai Bingguo in White House on May 9. As the special representative of Chinese President Hu Jintao and the presiding officer of the third round of China-US strategic and economic dialogue (S&ED), Wang said that China has made vigorous progress in the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) and the promotion of use of authorized software and has taken active measures to improve the policies related with innovation and government procurement to cultivate an open environment for foreign investment. He hoped that the U.S. could substantially ease restrictions on high-tech products export to China, benefiting people in both countries in a win-win perspective.
During the meeting, Wang firstly conveyed a message from Chinese President Hu Jintao to U.S. President Barack Obama, in which Hu said the Sino-US partnership featured by mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win has been seriously fulfilled since his official visit to the U.S in January and the two parties have been maintaining close communications in bilateral, regional and global cooperation; facing new conditions, China is willing to make joint efforts with U.S. to further enhance communications, understandings and mutual trust strategically, address disputes appropriately, expand and deepen the cooperation in various aspects and continue to advance the bilateral partnership.
The core mission of the third round of S&ED is to implement the important consensus of a comprehensive economic partnership jointly reached between the two heads of state, said Wang. As two significant economies in the world, China and the U.S are economically interdependent and highly complementary. Since the economic ties between the two states have developed beyond bilateral phase and have become more influential globally, the successfully organization of the dialogue will be crucial to promote the economic development of the two countries and even that of the world, according to Wang.
On the whole, the common interests of China and the United States outweigh the divergence, and dialogue and cooperation are the mainstream. China has made remarkable progress in protecting IPR, using legal software, improving innovation and government procurement policies and in cultivating an open environment for foreign investment. Wang hoped that the U.S. could substantially ease restrictions on high-tech products export to China, benefiting people in both countries.
The U.S. President Obama appreciated for Hu's important message and expressed that Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to the America in January is of great significance to the two states and the S&ED, which has vigorously promoted their mutual benefit and mutual trust, is an important mechanism in the bilateral partnership.
