Senior official stresses role of technology amid financial crisis

Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong stressed Monday the role of science and technology in coping with the global financial crisis and promoting healthy, rapid economic and social development.

Liu told a national work conference on science and technology that workers in the field should shoulder the mission.

Major science and technology projects closely related to boosting domestic demand and ensuring growth should enjoy priority, she said.

Enterprises are encouraged to improve their innovative ability. The level of science and technology in agriculture should be upgraded and scientific development concerning living standards should be boosted, she said.
