Led Zeppelin denies its hit ‘Stairway to Heaven’ infringes copyright for Spirit’s ‘Taurus’

The surviving members of Led Zeppelin insist they didn't commit copyright infringement in writing "Stairway to Heaven" like a 2014 lawsuit contends.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones did, however, agree with one portion of the legal filing, reports Boston.com.

"Defendants admit that Led Zeppelin has been called one of the greatest bands in history and its members were and are exceptionally talented," the group's answer to the lawsuit stated Wednesday.

"Otherwise (they) deny each and every allegation contained in paragraph 11 of the First Amended Complaint," the filing also stated.

The lawsuit claims that the opening notes of Zeppelin's iconic 1971 track were lifted from Spirit's "Taurus."

While the members admit they played in concerts with Spirit and even incorporated the band's song "Fresh Garbage" in their own medleys for some shows in 1968 and 1969, they deny all claims of Zeppelin's copyright infringement by Michael Skidmore, trustee for the trust of front man Randy Craig Wolfe.

Zeppelin requested a dismissal of the lawsuit in September since it was originally filed in Pennsylvania, where none of the band's members reside or own property.
