China's Copyright Law is currently undergoing its second revision, which aims to bring the legislation in line with the goals outlined in the National IPR Strategy, as well as bring it fully in line with WTO requirements. The amendment is currently being drafted by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) and will undergo further review by State Council and National People's Congress (NPC) before its final enactment. IPR2 is supporting a workshop together with the Legislative Affairs Committee (LAC) of NPC from September 24-25, 2009, giving a unique opportunity for further input on European experience and supporting the drafting process.

This is part of a larger collaboration between IPR2 and LAC on the review of the Copyright Law, which started with a study tour by the LAC drafting team to Austria, Switzerland and Spain from 14-25 May 2009 to meet with European academics, officials and practitioners working the field of copyright law, discuss the expected impact of the new law and share suggestions with the drafting team. More details.

This forms part of IPR2's work in support of China's revision of its major IP laws. Similar support was undertaken with the revision of the Patent Law in 2008. More details. And is ongoing with the Trademark Law. More details.
